In June 2018 Hugh Newman and Jj Ainsworth investigated America’s oldest petroglyphs near Winnemucca Lake in Nevada and were astonished by the size of them, the deep carvings and complexity of what they saw, and how similar they are to ancient rock art in Ireland and other areas of the ancient world. They are located in the vicinity of legendary red-haired giants and could well have been carved by these prehistoric titans. Researchers at the University of Colorado, Boulder conducted a study that dated the rock carvings to between 10,500 and 14,800 years ago. Larry Benson found that the rocky outcrop was exposed at both these times from the water in the lake so the giant petroglyphs could have been carved during either of these periods. The carvings include the earliest example of ‘cup marks’ that are also found at Gobekli Tepe in Turkey (9,600 BC). Hugh also discovered something remarkable on the nearby dry lake bed, a huge geoglyph of spiralling circles, that has never before been reported.
