German physicist Werner Heisenberg deduced that space and time are pixelated into indivisible three-dimensional Planck Length, are we living in a pixelated universe? If we are, then what type of a geometric code would describe a pixelated reality?
Before we get to this question, in order to understand the subject better, it’s important to know about Crystals in mathematics. Maybe you will be surprise to know that a Crystal isn’t only an expensive gemstone, in mathematics Crystal simply refers to a pattern that is periodic.
For example let’s take a checkerboard or chess table:
we can see how the pattern of the board continues to spread out infinitely in each direction, that means it’s a periodic pattern – a two-dimensional crystal. We also have 3D Crystals, for example the Cube shape in 3D cubic Lattice.
If we take the 3D crystal cube and hold it in the air, so the sun can reflect the 3D cube shadow on the ground, the result of the image on the ground would be a 2D quasicrystal image. The 2D image on the ground will never be periodic that’s why it call quasicrystal.
Pixelated universe theory –
18 Years of smashing particles together in a Particle accelerators such as the famous large Hadron collider in Geneva the CERN, have given us a strange clue. They discovered that all the fundamental particles and forces convert into one another, they literally transform from one to the other according to a process called “Gauge symmetry transformation”.
All of the conversions correspond to a shape, a particular eight-dimensional crystal shape also known as the E8 Lattice. The cell (base) shape of the E8 Lattice is an 8D shape with 240 Vertices that called the Gosset Polytope.
In order to generate a 3D Quasicrystal which is the substructure of the fabric of reality, Scientists project this 8D crystal at a very specific angle to a 4D and then they convert that to a 3D projection.

He deduced that space and time were pixelated into indivisible three-dimensional Planck Length units which has fundamental building blocks – a tetrahedron and a three-dimensional equilateral triangle. The size of each edge on this shape is the smallest possible length that can exist, just like the two-dimensional pixels on your computer screen. Think on the smallest pixel on your screen this will be the Planck length of the 2D screen.
Imagine our reality as your TV screen but in 3D, and think of the tetrahedron as a 3D pixel, the smallest possible indivisible unit of reality.
The tetrahedron in the 3D quasicrystal reality combine with other tetrahedron using complex mathematical rules to fill up all of space in the universe.
Each tetrahedron only has few specific states in which it can exist in any given moment and because of the rules of how these pixels connect to each other, if one tetrahedron is in a certain state this dictates the states of many others tetrahedron throughout all of space.
The mathematics indicated this reality and interestingly till today there is no solid experimental evidence for smooth, or not pixelated space time.
Here is a great mystery of our universe that we all want to discover. If a certain tetrahedron can be in any one of just few possible states in a given moment so who or what decided in which state it will be?!
Author opinion – for such a choice to be made we need to scientifically, mathematically and logically consider a new element in to physics that element is called consciousness, until there will be a uniform quantum theory to explain it, the mystery will remain forever.
